Snappy responses are unconstructive.

Hi everyone,

Today I was on the telephone speaking with an information assistance professional to retrieve a number.  After spelling out the name of the company, two times, the information professional tells me there is no number'  I pleasantly ask how he is spelling it and when he recites it back to me, he is spelling it wrong.  When I let him know he has transposed two letters, he jumps all over me stating that does not matter and hangs up on me.  I don't know what transpired in his day or what he was confronting but his short, unhelpful response was not productive.

Snappy responses reduce communication and are ineffective.  If your day is stressful, which many are, don't loose sight of the "end result" you want from the communication.  If you know you are going to be speaking with someone or an interruption appears, don't lose your cool, take a moment to regroup and then proceed with the communication.  You will be happy you did and the "end result" will be productive.

Make it a great day!

Motivate Yourself!

Sometimes you may  feel overwhelmed to motivate yourself because your life is so hectic with meeting all the demands.  Don't let that stop you!  Motivating yourself could be starting a new career, working out and/or eating right to get in shape, going back to college to secure a better career, feeling better about yourself so you do not have a low self-esteem, shaking any bad habit, cleaning up a catch all room or garage, and the list goes on.  We all need self-motivation to better ourselves.  Don't ever let yourself get caught where you wonder why life seems to be treating you unfair; life doesn't treat you unfair, you treat yourself unfair when you do not self-motivate.  You need to make the most of life which takes self-motivation!

Have a great day!

Your Appearance Speaks Volumes!

The way you communicate is not only through the way you speak and behave but it must include the way you appear.  Your business appearance is not about vanity rather it is the way you care about yourself which projects your confidence and credibility in yourself and your work.  Too many times working professionals do not understand the importance of their work wardrobe and grooming details to look smart.

You should want to make a positive impression each day you go to work, whether it is from home to an office outside the home.  When you look sloppy, outdated, too skimpy or ungroomed you do not project a positive impression.    You might say you work inside an office and do not come in contact with anyone other than your co-workers.  Although this may be true, it does not mean your should not care about the way you look.  Why?  You should want to look smart and polished because it builds your self-esteem and new opportunities may present themselves; employers are always taking notes.

If you are an employer you should not take advantage of your position by dressing too relaxed.  Why?  Your team looks at you as a leader and you must lead by example; if you want to build your credibility, look the part.

If you are in front of clients, potential clients, judges, groups, colleagues, etc. your appearance speaks to your expertise and credibility.  When you look sloppy, outdated, too skimpy, ungroomed or too relaxed you may loose your credibility which in turn looses sales, clients,  and cases.

If you are a home based business or small business owner your appearance is your calling card that showcases your confidence, specialty and expertise.  Although you may dress slightly more relaxed do not let it become too relaxed and messy.  Stand out and showcase yourself  and your specialty!

No matter where you work, your position or age you should want to look your best not only at work but also outside the office. Opportunities lurk everywhere from running errands, going on vacations, attending after hours, watching your child or teen's event, etc.  When you are on your personal time remember your image reflects who you are; your casual and social clothing and total appearance  needs to speak savvy and sharp.

You want to leave an excellent, lasting impression all the time.

Have a great day!!!

Use Eye Contact and Smile!

Today I walking and noticed many women and men that hold their head down when walking past other people.  This observation made me want to talk with all of you  about lifting your head, use eye contact and smile.  You might even want to say Good Morning or Hi.

I try everyday with everyone I come into contact with to smile, look at them and say hello.  It not only makes me feel good but I can see they like it too.  A warm smile and greeting always helps everyone.  You do  not have stop and talk  just be pleasant.  If you have a hard time looking up when walking past people here is a little tip.  You do not need to say hello but do lift your head and smile.  Once you practice for a while you can build up the confidence to say hello.  It will make you and them feel GREAT!!
